The American Indians go by 13 lunar moons as opposed to twelve months. At the end of May, tribes celebrate the annual rebirth of the world, when Mother Earth gives her bounty back to her children.  The Shawnee in Ohio call it Flowering Moon. The powwow was a time for singing and dancing as the Indians thanked the Creator for their surviving the Starving Moon and for celebrating Mother Earth’s rebirth.

 A sundown dance celebrated the day’s end when the warriors could relax. A feast is a joyous religious celebration honoring a god, saint or event. A festival is generally an event with entertainment and performances. A feast is a festival, but a festival is not necessarily a feast.
